Features

Medallion Exterior Latex Primer is the ideal prime coat under all oil and latex house paints. It is formulated with 100% acrylic resin for excellent adhesion, long lasting protection and resistance to peeling and blistering.

Coverage

One gallon covers up to 400 sq. ft. (37.2 m²) over painted or primed surfaces, less over rough or porous surfaces.

Where to Use

Use on properly prepared exterior surfaces including bare wood, previously painted wood siding and trim, brick, concrete, cement, stucco, non-rusted galvanized gutters and downspouts. Do not use over hardboard siding or gummy pine; use an exterior oil primer for these surfaces. Not for use on bare steel or iron; use rust inhibitive primer for these surfaces.

Clean Air Formula

According to the U.S. EPA, "volatile organic compounds (VOC's) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOC's include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOC's are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors." In addition, VOC's are a contributing factor to ozone, a common air pollutant. Health risks depend upon how much is in the air and the frequency in which it is breathed. Learn more about low VOC and low odor.

Preparing the Surface

Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all mildew, dirt, dust, rust and grease. On previously painted surfaces, scrape loose and peeling paint, sand, then prime. Wire brush chalking areas and clean with TSP (or equivalent) and water removing as much chalk as possible. Dull glossy surfaces with gloss remover or sandpaper. Countersink nails and apply a rust inhibitive metal primer on exposed nail heads. Fill nail holes with putty. Caulk all cracks and joints. On masonry brush loose sand, dust and other material from the surface. May be used to prime weathered, non-rusted galvanized gutters and downspouts.

Dry Time

Apply only when air and surface temperatures are between 50-90°F (10-32°C). Dries to the touch in 30 minutes. Allow 2 hours before applying latex topcoats, overnight for oil topcoats.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN.
