One gallon will cover approximately 120 sq. ft. You will be applying two coats, so figure that you will need one gallon for every 60 sq. ft.
This paint is ideal on properly prepared wallboard, plaster, wood, masonry and brick. DO NOT APPLY to heavily used surfaces such as trim, woodwork, doors or cabinets.
For Previously Painted Surfaces: Before painting, you must have a clean, grease-free surface. Wash walls with a mild detergent (such as TSP) and rinse well. Allow to dry thoroughly. Fill all cracks and nail holes with patching compound and spot prime. New paint will not adhere to glossy surfaces. Dull them by sanding (remove all sanding dust) or by using a liquid gloss remover.
Items You Will Need: Premium quality rollers (1 1/4 inch roller cover) and roller tray, polyester brushes (for both trim and wall), drop cloths and a stepladder. Tip: Use premium quality brushes and applicators for professional results. Stir well before and occasionally during use. Adding Granite Crystals: If glittering highlights of natural rocks and minerals is what you desire, add Granite Crystals to your paint. Slowly add the Crystals to the paint while stirring in a circular lifting motion. Avoid dumping all the Crystals into the paint before stirring as it may be difficult to stir to uniformity. Apply paint following label instructions. The Granite Crystals may not appear while applying the wet paint, but will show when the finish is dry.
Brush a 3" border (cut-in) around the ceiling, floor, and trim edges and corners. Note: Do not cut-in around the entire room at once as this can cause a banded appearance. Rather, brush out the edges in sections. This ensures a wet edge during rolling for an even appearance. Roll using a premium quality 1 1/4 inch nap roller. Work in 3' square sections. Roll a large "W". Then, fill in the square. Finish an entire vertical column of 3' sections. When done, roll the full length from floor to ceiling. This will minimize uneven sections and lap marks. Any lap marks will be corrected by application of the second coat, which also gives the natural granite appearance. Do not stretch this product. Allow to dry completely, at least 4 hours.
Practice this random application technique on a practice board before you begin your project. Use a premium quality 3" or 4" polyester brush. Basically, you will be applying Granite in a series of overlapping "X"s. Work in sections, but avoid a squared off pattern. Start with larger "X"s (roughly a foot in length). Then, overlap with smaller "X"s (about 4-6"). Continue to work until the entire wall is covered. Use both the broad width and narrow width (side bristles) of the brush. This will ensure both varying widths and lengths of stroke. Do not be afraid to use multiple strokes on top of each other. Random, irregular brush strokes are essential to achieve a successful Granite look. Do not follow a set pattern.
This premium latex paint will dry to the touch in about an hour. Optimal room temperature is between 50-90°F (10-32°C) and 50% humidity. Remember, high humidity or cool conditions will lengthen dry times.
